I think,that if the old man took a boy in to the swimming, he wouldn't lost so much time and energy. I liked this cartoon, It's a first tima I saw cartoon wiht this animation.It looks unusual) In this cartoon I find an example of how not to give up and reach a goal.
I think the major conflict of the novel is the confrontation between a man and the nature. Santiago uses nature (read: sea) to provide himself with food, enough food to survive. But as we can see, many of the fisherman's attempts failed. The nature is against him. He managed to catch a large marlin, however the old man returned home with nothing but the skeleton. That's why Santiago told the boy, the fish (read: nature) had beaten him.
I fully agree with Anne that the major conflict resides in the nature and a human being.Initially, Santiago is struggling against the sea and later against the marlin itself.Still later, once he has vanquished the marlin, sharks appear and his conflict turns to fighting off the sharks as they try to eat the marlin, which Santiago has been towing. All three antagonists, the sea, the marlin and the sharks are forces of nature which Santiago must overcome.
In my opinion, the main and most obvious conflict here is the one between the man and the sea. The old man first won his struggle, when he managed to defeat the fish, however I think that the sea overpowered him lastly, when the sharks deprived him of his trophy. I pity the old man, for I think that he also accepted that as a defeat. He often remembered the times when he was young and strong and could defeat even the strongest man and probably missed those times. The sea proved to him that he would never be able to return his former strength and life full of adventures. First of all, i'am so glad to see this minifilm made by Aleksandr Petrov, witch based on Hemingway's novella "the old man and the sea", for i want to see it a long time ago, because it was commoned as a novella with short sentences and paragraphs devoid of verbosity, but also conveys complex themes. I like the style of this film, for it can be characterized as a type of Romantic realism, very Russian i think. Petrov attempts to visually show a character's inner thoughts and dreams in a extremely beautiful way, very impressive.. As for the main character of the story, the old man, he has extraordinary perseverance, which helped him to win the strongest man when he was young, and he still wanted to prove his strength though he was an old man. At last he cought the big fish but lost it to sharks. although the sharks consume the big fish, he proves that he is still a great fisherman. I think, that wins or loses his battle with the great fish is less important than waging a good and honorable fight. I like the Hemingway's novella "The old man and the sea" and it was rather interesting for me to watch how it can be reflected in the cartoon, rather uncommon ,graphically ,I think!The Old Man and the Sea is the story of the conflict between one man and his ultimate goal. There are many conflicts occurring in the novel,and each contributes to Santiago’s suffering and reveals different depths of his character.The conflict is between the main character and the forces of nature.The character of Santiago stand for herosim. Every human being has the dream as to be hero. Here santiago has the dream even his attempt failed, he never lose his faith about success. The great success not come to our life with single stoke. The confidence of santiago make him successful in attempt.
