What I can say about it?It seems strange, doesn't it?Especially the latter can't be quite understand for me.But nevertheless their special traditions are interested. They don't live on boring way-it's clear. And every country must have only their customs-ones which aren't clear for foreigners.I esteem different cultures. As for me-I'd like to visit Britain and stay for a while there to see their special festivals.
I was infatuated by this video. With help of it I learned that I know little about Great British Culture. There are a lot of games and customs that very suprised me. So it gives me an incentive to learn as much as possible about this country. Everyone says British traditions are strange, but I don't think so. I believe in every country you can find lots of curios habits or customs that will suprise you too. And Ukraine is not an exclusion.
I was impressed after this video!!It was a big surprise for me! I`ve never heard about this traditions, just about Guy Fawkes Night. It was really interesting!! After watching it I wanted to know more information about it, and I found it. Some traditions are really funny, most of all I liked Ascot Ladies Day, it`s just amazing. What makes this so special is that every year the fashion, specifically the hats get bigger. But some are shoking, for example Cheese Rolling at Cooper’s Hill, to my mind it is dangerous, only crazy people can do this!=)))
These British traditions are really funny and strange. I suppose, it's so nice that every country has such traditons which distinguish it from others. As for these 10 traditions, mostly I like Pancake Bacing, Ascot Ladies Day and Cheese Rolling. I find them bizarre as well as interesting and unusual.
Who said that all these traditions are strange? Some people may find it odd and out of this world, but for the British, these customs are like a mirror to their past. Many centuries have gone by, but the taditions are preserved and appreciated these days. I find The Ascot Ladies Day very entertaining and interesting. Royal Ascot is the world's most famous race meeting and is steeped in history that dates back to 1711. Always a superb sporting and social occasion, combining tradition and pageantry with unrivalled horse racing action, it promises to be bigger and better than ever before. This magnificent event is steeped in centuries of history, tradition and style, for which it is still renowned for today. The action on the track is matched only by the fashions off it with a spectacular array of colourful outfits and hats on display, ranging from catwalk chic to interesting and obscure. Always a superb sporting and social occasion Royal Ascot is much more than just a race meeting. It represents the epitome of prestige, luxury and style, all in the perfect setting of the beautiful Berkshire countryside.
In my opinion, one of the most astonishing traditions is Bog snorkelling. It is a sporting event that consists of competitors completing two consecutive lengths of a 60-yard (55 m) water filled trench cut through a peat bog, in the shortest time possible. Competitors must wear snorkels and flippers, and complete the course without using conventional swimming strokes, relying on flipper power alone. So it is quite an extraordinary event to watch. Every August for the last 20 years, the smallest town in Wales has been host to the International Extreme Bog Snorkelling Championships. The winner is entered in the Guinness Book of Records.
These British traditions are so odd and incomprehensible not only for our culture but also for others as well. From my point of view the most inconceivable and obscure is Guy Fawkes Night and I’d like to give you some brief information about this British tradition.
Guy Fawkes Night (or “bonfire night”), held on 5 November in the United Kingdom and some parts of the Commonwealth, is a commemoration of the plot, during which an effigy of Fawkes is burned, often accompanied by a fireworks display. The word “guy”, meaning “man” or “person”, is derived from his name. Guy Fawkes (13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606), also known as Guido Fawkes, the name he adopted while fighting for the Spanish in the Low Countries, belonged to a group of Catholic Restorationists from England who planned the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Their aim was to displace Protestant rule by blowing up the Houses of Parliament while King James I and the entire Protestant, and even most of the Catholic, aristocracy and nobility were inside. The conspirators saw this as a necessary reaction to the systematic discrimination against English Catholics.
The Gunpowder Plot was led by Robert Catesby, but Fawkes was put in charge of its execution. He was arrested a few hours before the planned explosion, during a search of the cellars underneath Parliament in the early hours of 5 November prompted by the receipt of an anonymous warning letter. Basically it’s a celebration of the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.
Every nation and every country has its own traditions and customs. Traditions make a nation special. Some of them are old-fashioned and many people remember them, others are part of people’s life.A lot of British tradition have very long histories. Some are funny and some are strange. Some of British traditions are very very strange. I realy can't understand Cheese Rolling? it's very strange.I've heard that The Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an annual event held on the Spring Bank Holiday at Cooper’s Hill near Gloucester in the Cotswolds region of England It is traditionally by and for the people of Brockworth – the local village, but now people from all over the world take part. The event takes its name from the hill on which it occurs. The 2010 event has been cancelled due to safety concerns over the number of people visiting the event but it is hoped that it will be held on the late May Bank Holiday in 2011. Due to the steepness and uneven surface of the hill there are usually a number of injuries, ranging from sprained ankles to broken bones and concussion. Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling has been summarized as “twenty young men chase a cheese off a cliff and tumble 200 yards to the bottom, where they are scraped up by paramedics and packed off to hospital”. But many of them are very funny. especially I liked Guy Fawkes Night and Ascot Ladies Day,they are all interesting and amazing. One cannot really imagine Britain without all its traditions, this integral feature of social and private life of the people living on the British Isles that has always been an important...
The human`s imagination doesn`t have any borders and these peculiar English traditions can only prove it one more time. On the other hand they are funny in a some way, BUT anyway they aren’t boring!!! As for me here there is one really exciting and beautiful tradition – Ascot Ladies Day. The five days of the royal meeting at Ascot provide one of the most unique and colourful occasions on the sporting calendar. Queen Ann founded Ascot Races in 1711 and members of the Royal family still lead the procession from Windsor Castle to Ascot each day. The Gold Cup meeting, or 'LADIES DAY' as it is famously known, is a great day at the races and one not to be missed. Focus switches from racing to fashion, in particular ladies and their hats! for the second year running we are also heading out for the ROYAL ASCOT FINALE on the Saturday for more exciting racing action and even better – no time off work! I`ve found lots of hats` pictures and understood – it is something crazy! Anyway I guess nobody can deny that Britains have no sense of humour=)
The British nation, is believed to be the most conservative in Europe. It's no secret that every nation and every country has its own customs and traditions. In the UK people pay more attention to the traditions and customs, than in other European countries. The British are proud of their traditions and carefully keep them up.But some of the traditions to me incomprehensible and ridiculous.
